28th Anniversary Celebration of the ICAN
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal celebrated its 28th Anniversary on 2081 Magh 17 (corresponding to 30th January 2025), by organizing ICAN Day program in the gracious presence of the Hon’ble Finance Minister Mr. Bishnu Prasad Paudel as the Chief Guest of the program. CA. Prabin Kumar Jha, President Chaired the program whereby, Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Financial Comptroller General and Mr. Santosh Narayan Shrestha, Chairman, Securities Board of Nepal were the Special Guest in the program.

CA. Prabin Kumar Jha, President ICAN delivered a speech providing a comprehensive overview of the major activities undertaken by the Institute during the reporting period, in alignment with the Strategic Plan 2078/79–2080/81 as well as the Institute’s annual program and budget. The President Speech included synopsis of the key achievement and shortfall on each of six domain envisioned by the third Strategic Plan 2078/79–2080/81. The President provided an overview of the forthcoming fourth strategic plan, which will transition from the current three-year to a five-year horizon. The President highlighted his commitment on strengthening the operational resilience and long-term sustainability of ICAN, ensuring its continued growth and relevance in the global landscape.

Addressing, as a Chief Guest of the Program, Hon’ble Finance Minister Mr. Bishnu Prasad Paudel, congratulated ICAN on its 28th Anniversary Celebration. Hon’ble Finance Minister valued ICAN as a critical strategic partner in driving the nation’s economic development and expressed his commitment to support the induction of professional accountants in the public sector. Additionally, The Hon’ble Finance Minister called for a strategic alliance with ICAN to enhance the tax system and improve revenue generation. The Hon’ble Finance Minister highlighted the importance of the trust placed in reports prepared by Professional Accountants and urged that the standard of reports be upheld to foster a positive investment climate and attract foreign investment. The Hon’ble Finance Minister further stressed the necessity of credible reporting by professional accountants to promote the country's economic health and overall development.
Furthermore, The Hon’ble Finance Minister shared the government's ongoing initiatives to enhance corporate governance and improve the investment climate, aiming to overcome the economic stagnation currently faced by overall nation.

During the celebration, Hon’ble Finance Minister Mr. Bishnu Prasad Paudel unveiled the ICAN Annual Report for FY 2023/24 and Strategic Plan 2024/25 to FY 2028/29.

Glimpse of unveiling ceremony of ICAN Annual Report FY 2023/24
Besides the unveiling ceremony of the Annual Report and Strategic Plan, an award distribution session was also held. The Institute recognized and awarded one employee with Dirgha Sewa Padak who have been serving for more than 20 years in the Institute, one employee with an Outstanding Employee Award and five employees with Best Employee of the Year Award. Similarly, prizes were given to the winners of games organized by ICAN Employee Union during the celebration of ICAN 28th Anniversary was also held.
Moreover, delivering remarks at the program, Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey, Financial Comptroller General also highlighted on the role of ICAN and accounting professionals in strengthening public financial management in Nepal and financial transparency, taxation and governance.
The program concluded with the closing remarks and vote of thanks from CA. Nil Bahadur Saru Magar, Vice-President, ICAN. Vice President provided overview of the Institute’s unveiled five-year Strategic Plan, emphasizing its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Then the Vice President urged members to engage proactively with the government, offering their expertise and insights in the process of policy formulation. In particular, the Vice President encouraged collaboration to ensure the incorporation of professional perspectives into legislative development and requested Hon’ble Finance Minister to facilitate an inclusive environment that would allow the active participation of ICAN members in the drafting of laws.
