29th Anniversary Celebration of ICAN

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal celebrated its 29th anniversary on 2082 Magh 17 (corresponding to 31st January 2026), in the gracious presence of Finance Minister, Mr. Rameshwor Khanal as Chief Guest of the program. The program was chaired by CA Nil Bahadur Saru Magar, President, ICAN whereby Hon’ble Auditor General, Mr. Toyam Raya and Financial Comptroller General, Mr. Shobha Kanta Poudel addressed the program as Special Guest.

The program started with a welcome remark from the CA Bimal Dangol, Executive Director, whereby he welcomed guests and participants in the program and shared the major initiatives of ICAN during FY 2024/25 along with ongoing projects of ICAN.

Following the welcome remarks, CA Nil Bahadur Saru Magar delivered a speech outlining the Council's strategic vision for the upcoming year. He placed significant emphasis on ICAN’s leadership in fostering economic development and job creation through the Global Accounting Initiative in Nepal (GAIN) Project and Campus Placement Project. Furthermore, he detailed the Institute's commitment to strategic collaboration, highlighted by various Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with key stakeholders including Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), the National Cooperative Regulatory Authority (NCRA), and Public Procurement Monitoring Office (PPMO).

Addressing the program, Financial Comptroller General, Mr. Shobha Kanta Poudel congratulated ICAN on its 29th Anniversary and stressed on the role of professional accountants in strengthening Nepal’s financial services sector. He also emphasized collaborative relationship between ICAN and Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO), and significance of MoU signed between ICAN and FCGO.

Likewise, speaking in the program, Hon’ble Auditor General, Mr. Toyam Raya emphasized the necessity of ICAN’s robust regulatory oversight. He highlighted the critical role of auditing across both the public and private sectors, specifically advocating for the increased engagement of ICAN members by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in public sector audits. Furthermore, Mr. Raya stressed the importance of conducting performance audits and urged the integration of advanced information technology including Artificial Intelligence (AI) while maintaining stringent data security protocols within accounting and auditing practices.

Addressing the program, Finance Minister Mr. Rameshwor Khanal, congratulated ICAN for its achievement over the period of 29 years and stressed on the role of professional accountants in strengthening the Nepal’s Public Financial Management (PFM) especially in areas of revenue reforms and effective taxation system development. In this context, he shared that Government is under consideration for induction of Chartered Accountants through creation of vacancy for CA in civil service. Besides, he praised ICAN’s initiatives in launching GAIN project and emphasized on development of large-scale accounting and audit firms in Nepal that are capable of delivering potential for exporting IT-enabled accounting services at international level services from Nepal.

During the celebration, Finance Minister Mr. Rameshwor Khanal unveiled the ICAN Annual Report for FY 2024 and Annual Report of Quality Assurance Board.

The Employee Union of the Institute also organized Inter-Regulator Friendly Futsal Tournament on 16th and 17th January 2026 during celebrations of 29th Anniversary of ICAN. Team from Inland Revenue Department were the Winners of the tournament whereby, Team of Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal secured the Runners-up position in the tournament. In addition, the Employee Union of the Institute also provided Letter of Appreciation to Mr. Omkar Shrestha and Mr. Jenish Prajapati for their support in ICAN’s Information Technology and Photography related service respectively.

The program concluded with closing remarks of CA Ananda Raj Sharma Wagle, Vice-President, ICAN whereby he expressed his vote of thanks to the chief guest, special guests, guests, employees, journalists, and all participants and formally concluded the Institute’s Annual Anniversary Celebration program. Altogether, over 200 participants including members and stakeholders attended the program.
